On Sunday I finally got out of Bishop and headed south down to Big Pine and then towards Division Creek area by the campground with some friends. If you take South Fish Springs road and head towards Tinemaha cg there's some nice things to be found. There was a storm front heading in so it was a bit windy down there as you can see in the shot.
This really represents a classic ES winter scene to me. Hope you enjoy!

[edit] Based on your suggestions I've added an alternative comp with more sky and cropped the tree out on the left. I definetely like the added sky but not sure about cropping out the tree and with it the willows.

A real classic look for Owens area during the winter, Cory. The tip off is the FG grasses, with obviously the Sierras in the BG too. I think you have netted an excellent exposure, look, and feel for this area. :toast:

Weather does not look too promising for our upcoming outing :frown:. Oh well, I will still be headed up there as planned.

I like the colors and their contrast to the stormy fog on the mountains. Not sure of your comp, but if you have it, I would not mind seeing just a touch more room at the top. Feels a little tight, but that is a minor nit. Nice image!

Cory, this is a superb comp and wonderful image overall. It's nice to see some life returning to the burn area. I like the tight multilayered capture.

Maybe this spring we'll see the return of the lupines to the Division Creek canyon.

thanks guys!
@Paul: yep, looks like it's gonna get stormy this weekend!
@Harley: I do have more on top. I kinda thought it looked a bit tight too after posting this web version. I'm not too sure of the tree on the left either. I always seem to see these things AFTER the fact.

@Jeffery: I sure hope we get some good flowers this spring. It sure looks promising based on the amount of rain we've received so far plus the current snow pack.

Cory,

I really like the soft, overcast palette in this one. I like the rich colors of the willows(?) in the middle ground and the movement of the grasses in the foreground. Yes, I think cropping the left hand tree and giving a little more room on top will have a profound effect.

I like the extra sky, but I think I prefer it without the crop. The image seems to be far better balanced with the tree on the left.

Thanks for revisiting this Harley. I liked the tree as it added additional movement from the wind. Not sure at this point which I prefer.
