North Central WA ice is incredible thru Weds
Anyone who is interested in photographing ice or mist on rivers in bright sunlight with alpenglow peaks in the BG might consider spending Wednesday (tomorrow!) in Chelan County. We have had very cold, clear nights and bright days since yesterday. The ice is rimming the Wenatchee River, causing weird and spectacular formations. The Icicle is currently awesome, as no doubt the other big rivers flowing east are, e.g., Methow, Entiat, Twisp, etc. In the morning, as this photo shows, the mist rises and swirls up from the rivers. Tomorrow morning I'm heading out to the Columbia River, which is too warm to have ice, but has massive amounts of mist.

Photo taken in Cashmere Riverfront Park early yesterday morning. I'm
calling it Fire and Ice.
Sony R-1, two exposures; 1/320 & 1/30 @f/11.

Beautiful shot. If I didn't have a day job...I'd be so out there.

I just returned to my office from another finger numbing session on the shores of the Wenatchee R.; I heard it was 6 degrees this morning, but I'll bet it was colder down on the river. The ice was so extensive that the little sno-cone "bergs" had completely dammed a section of the river and the ice on the shore was REALLY thick. Every 10 minutes or so the ice would crack; it was pretty freaky.

What they said. Really, really nice Marc. This is one of my favorites that I've seen of yours. Excellent job on the dynamic range!
