I sent a broken 1.4 TC to Nikon back on January 4. It wasn't a major fix, just a broken lever that keeps the aperture set at wide open while viewing. In addition to wanting $160+ for this minor fix, I still haven't received it back. According to the tracking records I should receive it tomorrow.
I have no doubt it will be fully repaired and in fine order, but it certainly seemed like an inordinate amount of time (and $) for such a simple repair. Just venting....
Wow! Only 18 days! Nikon has really improved service.

Bill,
Nikon has had a SB800 of mine since early December. No idea when I am going to get it back. It needed the LED screen replaced. Still waiting...
Want to talk about inordinate costs, I had to replace both screw assemblies on the lens hood of my 600, you know the little screws that hold the thing together and on the lens. Well, it was nearly $100 for both. Just Parts. I had to replace them myself. At least they included directions. Considering buying a new hood is like $500, I was a bit surprised at the prices of the two screw assemblies.

I've had same day service on a couple items that I brought into Nikon Authorized Service in Morton Grove, IL. (A suburb of Chicago.) They will even fix grey market, or otherwise unwarrented equipment.Go to www.nikonauthorizedservice.com for details.

Well, I guess I have to eat a little crow here; not about the slowness, but about the expense. Basically, they sent back a new TC. They only items left original were the elements themself and the end caps. They even put a new barrel on it, complete with new S/N. They also cleaned the elements better than I've ever been able to clean them, they look new except for a couple of tiny marks that were there before. While they were still slow as molasses, I can't complain about $168 for what's basically a brand new TC.

I've had my fair share of trouble with Nikon service here in Switzerland, too. When I brought my D100 in for service (main mode dial was not working properly), they first replaced something and charged me 250 bucks. I don't exactly know what "something" was, since the problem persisted. Re-sent it, and they fixed it properly.
Then, I sent in my 70-300 VR because the images at 300 mm with VR on stunk big time. They sent me a new lens - the images are o.k., but it makes a scratching noise when zooming. Something I never noticed before... well... I don't know whether I want to send it back again. I'm just wondering why they can't get it done right the first time, twice in a row now.
