Klamath Redtail
I haven't been visiting NPN or PNWNP for a while...so here's one from yesterday.
Canon 10D, 300mm + 1.4 extender

I kind of like the late afternoon side lighting here.

I like this a lot, but your "horizon" (the top of the little slope) cuts the image in two. I've experimented with cropping top or bottom, but nothing seems to work. Tough composition challenge, wonderful sharpness on the bird & bare branches in fg......maybe just crop away most of the soft bg.....like say the top 1/3 of the image?

Good post, keep them coming.

I really like the look of this hawk......I think I would crop this square to get rid of the LL Corner!!!

Great shot....he looks mean!

I agree with Darren's comments.

I'm getting bored with the flood of bird portrait shots that are being posted everywhere these days, so this much more environmental shot is welcome. I like the square crop suggestion.

I notice the disturbance in the snow towards the top of the slope. Was this made by some rodent, rabbit, etc, that the red tail was after?

I vote for 10% off the top and 25% off the left. A crop is in order anyway.

Thanks for all of the comments guys. Several good suggestions. Geoff, I'm rather bored of bird portraits myself, even my own. As far as the disturbances in the snow, there are so many rodents, and raptors in this small area it could be anything. It's amazing how much wildlife is concentrated in certain spots.

Very cool to see the redtail against the snow, I don't see that often.
