OK, I know most of my fellow canon shooters are using pro bodies, and thus won't give whoot about this, but for those of you who, like me, are still in the consumer SLR category, you'll be pleased with Canon's latest upgrade to the Rebel.

It has the 12mp sensor, Digic III processor (14bit color), Live View w/auto focus, and a few other goodies. For the price point, it's a pretty nice camera.

For me, this is great news. I almost upgraded to the XTi Last fall, but when I saw the price plummet to $500, I decided to wait for the obvious upgrade announcement that would surely follow. I'll have to wait until April, but that gives me time to refill my camera fund

Someday I'll get to join you big boys with a real pro body, but unitl then, I have to settle for cheaper thrills.

Looks good to me Curtis. The weather proofing might be an issue especially out in your neck of the woods.

Nikon is going to have to respond to this. A Rebel with the important features of the D300 at less than half the price. What's worse is that Pentax is coming out with a camera that exceeds the D300 in some respects for less money. I am locked into Nikon and feeling frustrated. I hope they announce something good for PMA.

Wow, nice upgrade in features. I have to agree with Erik though, if I'm going to reach up into that price range, I think I want something with more weatherproofing. I have the 350D and almost ruined it with one trip to the beach and a tiny amount of seawater.
Does anyone know how significant the difference in weatherproofing is between the Digital Rebel series and the 30D/40Ds?

Curtis,
That new Canon dslr does seem like a nice camera and a significant upgrade.

As RL Potts mentioned Pentax, the new Pentax K20d announced yesterday sounds exciting to me as a longtime Pentax film camera user. The new 14.6 mp Pentax-designed sensor sounds promising, reputedly low noise and high image quality for that size sensor.
The new K20d is solidly built and weatherproofed with user-friendly logical controls.
I'm considering adding it to my camera bag, in addition to my MZ-S film bodies. I'm planning to shoot both, film and digital, since all my full frame pro lenses that I've collected over the last 10 years fit on both.
