In conjunction with Tim E's post regarding the swan release at Boxley earlier this week, this same group released 13 swans at Holla Bend on Thursday. This is one getting used to his new digs that will, hopefully, become the southern end of their winter migration. All of these also have the "green nightmare band" around both neck and foot, but, if this experiment works then in a few years these and their offspring will return to the area giving great photo opps with birds without the bands while keeping photogs from having to deal with the limitations placed upon them by the land owners at Magness Lake.

The birds seemed to like their new location as all 13 stayed in the pond at HB for some time. After about three hours some had flown out to other locations but several stilled remained on the pond.

Hope this works. It will be a first for this type of relocation experiment and AR will be rewarded with a strong trumpeter swan population.

Best to all!

So far as of this morning the Boxley swans have remained in the pond, and for some reason like to sleep on the ICE around the edges! They don't have near the real estate to patrol like the ones at Holla Bend do, which makes them an easy photo target since they will remain in the same little area.
