Hi to all,

I have a couple of questions regarding the Gitzo GS5120LVL , firstly , will my Wimberley v2 head fit straight onto the leveling base ??? and secondly is the leveling base column removable , if not does this hinder low level photography ???

I think that you own one of these Mr Astbury so your advice is greatly needed :confused: :biggrin: :confused: :biggrin: , Andy do you know if Bob Rigby stocks them.

Don't want to order one in the morning and find that it doesn't fit or work with my 1325.

Cheers guys

Hi Andrew,

The "handle" of the levelling base does sit about 6 inches under the tripod, so you won't be able to go totally flat to the ground. My wimberley head sit straight on it so you should be OK, as far as I am aware on mine at least you cannot remove the column/handle.

Andrew I bit the bullet & bought the GT3540LS - Carbon 6x Studex, never looked back. This with the Wemberley is a great combination, both for normal & low level. Invested in a centre column too, 8 months later still in it's box. Hope this helps?

Hi Andy, as Rob has already said, the level lock handle does protrude so pan-flat positioning it not possible.

But to be honest I always find that if I need a flat on the floor shot the pod legs get in the bloomin way so that's why I made my 'skimmer' as it's much easier to manouver because it doesn't catch on anything AND it's about 1" lower than the flat tripod without the Lbase.

Any head will fit the 5120 as long as it's a standard 3/8th thread.

I got mine off Uncle Bob :biggrin:

Just get Garry or Andy (or Simon if you are pushed) to check that it will fit the 1325 before you order.

Once you've got it and used it for a week you'll wonder how you ever managed without one - it's as useful as a second pair of hands :biggrin:

Hi Andy,

The Wimberely should fit directly onto it and should also fit series 3/4/5 tripods. Not sure but I think the newer version is shorter (Looks like it to me from the picture). I'm hoping mine will be arriving this week. Here's a link to the Gitzo product page;

Hope this helps!
