Sawatch Sunday Spectacular
Knew the coming snowstorm would bring good light to the Sawatch, so headed up early sunday morning to shoot between Twin Lakes and the road closure below Independence Pass. Stomped through 3-4 ft of snow and took many shots of the terrific sunrise/moonset.
Just got through processing about half. Will post some more later this week on ESS. This one's from Twin lakes.

One from about 10 miles up the road.

And the approaching storm near Buena Vista later yesterday morn (B&W convert)

I like 3rd and 4th the most. I wish you would post the color version of the B&W.
How close to the Pass can you drive this time a year? How many miles/hours would you have to snowshoe to the Pass from there?
Thanks for posting.

Momo, thanks for the comments. Ill see if i can post the color version tomorrow, but trust me, it dont look too different  . The road is closed 16 miles from the turn off, im not sure how much further the pass is (about 6 miles??) but its closed well before it starts to climb. Incidentally, i had meant to climb Yale but the road to Cottonwood pass is closed 3 miles earlier too--lots of snow this winter i guess.

Stan,

The color in the first two is sweet. On the first one, something about the foreground makes it feel like you're falling backwards.

The third generates the feeling of an impending storm, but also has very painterly light.

The fourth echoes what I saw looking towards Princeton from South Park.

Thanks Mel, yes #1 was on a good uphill slope, somewhat of a challenge setting up the tripod in the powder too!
Here's another of that same ridge--can anyone tell me the peak on the right?

I need to make my way down there real soon and do some winter camping. Nice shots, I especially like the first and third

Nice stuff, Stan. I'm partial to the first two shots, but I also really like the B&W.

I really like that third one, Stan. I think that first one would make for a nice panoramic as well.

I like number 3 the best and 4 looks pretty darn good too!

My vote's in for 2 and 3, Stan.

I love the sky in 2 and the light in 3. Can't wait to see your "better" ones :jump:

Talk soon.

Stan the Man! Great stuff, guy. I'm not copping to the b&w image, both on the monochromatic level and the composition level, but all the others are outstanding. I think the first two are my faves.

Great scenery and nice shooting, Stan. #3 is a standout - great comp and gorgeous light.
