Thanks for the condolences my friends :) Good to see I have resources with years or experience on how to deal with 40s+
Yes, Ned...the porsche is my midlife crisis solution I had to buy for myself a few weeks ago  I am single and in my forties now, so I need all the tools I can muster up
Posted by Kevin Pieper on January 30, 2008 at 8:17 PM
Rick, I didn't know you had a porsche! Email me sometime, us Porsche guys gotta stick together. Happy Birthday, BTW.

Welcome to the over 40's club Rick! A word of warning though... with old age comes the thunk of living for today cuz you've probably burned thru 8 of your 9 lives scrambling over the SW and ya tend to get kinda protective of that "one" remaining.
Soooo... drive carefully and PLEASE shoot that awesome tree brance abstract reflected in your tool's windshield before it rains!

Happy Milestone-Day Rick and serious wishes for many-many more.

Everyone is far too old here. . Congrats, Rick. Don't let a number slow you down from mass producing your beautiful work.
Posted by John Williams on January 31, 2008 at 1:05 AM
Yep, welcome to the club Rick! :toast: :toast:

I'm not that far ahead of you, so no great words of wisdom. (My only advice is to watch out for what your doctor might want to add to your next physical...)
Posted by Curtis Knight on January 31, 2008 at 2:38 PM
There's no room for you camera gear in that thing! :jump:
Posted by Jim Jirka on January 31, 2008 at 3:00 PM
Did you hear the joke:

"do you know the difference between a porcupine and a guy driving a porsche"?

The porcupine has the pricks on the outside.

My midlife crisis was a full dress harley.
Posted by Rick Lundh on January 31, 2008 at 4:23 PM
Thanks again folks, ol timers and pups alike! :)
Jim...hardy-har-har! you know... it's funny how much I've heard that joke in the last two weeks...lol...

Let's see....
- name is "Rick"? Check.
- turns 40 in 2008? Check.
- convertible sports car? Check.

I think you're my long-lost twin!

Here's mine. Though not quite a mid-life thing; I've wanted one ever since I went for a spin in my sister's boyfriend's 240Z when I was 13. Nothing quite like a nice day with the top down and some windy back-country roads to play on!
Posted by Rick Lamb on January 31, 2008 at 7:47 PM
My midlife crisis was simply surviving 2007!!! Although Nancy swears this nice sparkly new Canon 1D Mark III could EASILY qualify!!

Rick now that yer 40 your doctor is gonna sit ya down and explain the "REALITIES" of being 40. Such as being poked in all the WRONG places!!
Posted by Marc Dilley on January 31, 2008 at 9:06 PM
Happy 40th Rick!!!! From another member of the geezer club - 17 years past yer grand milestone!!!!

Here's my midlife crisis rig. Funny thing, I aged anyway. But it's been fun..............
Posted by Rick Lundh on February 1, 2008 at 2:28 AM
Well Rick D...brother! lol...too funny. My first car was a '73 240Z. That baby was sweet, and I almost looked at getting another one. Your 350 is fricken sweet! Wanna race? And looking at Marc's rig...and Kevin P's and Eric Hahl's we could have a regular car club too  . That Cooper is pretty quick from what I hear...
And for Mr Lamb, 2007 was tough for you. That's a huge deal...but you already have a cool car and a sweet house...so bringing your big nice camera into the equation makes me want to punch you  (kidding of course)
Posted by Rick Lundh on February 1, 2008 at 2:32 AM
Oh...and Rick D...You will love the little town of Rowena. Actually just out of Rowena in the turns...they are hairpin curves which in the spring, have wildflowers all over that area...
Posted by Marc Dilley on February 1, 2008 at 10:50 AM
This is an autocross club with a photography habit....
Posted by Eric Hahl on February 1, 2008 at 11:23 AM
Happy B-day Rick! I wanna join the car fun too! Here's my 40th b-day present I got last year.
Posted by Rick Dunn on February 1, 2008 at 12:56 PM
Nice rides fellas! Rowena sounds like fun; I'll have to check it out. Not sure I could keep up with the Porshce - I've got power, but I think I've got a lot more weight, too.

Marc - my wife wants that exact Mini, but with the black stripes. Looks like a lot of fun!

Rick Lamb - I saw the semicolon reference but didn't understand until I searched the archives a few weeks ago. I'm sure that's the kind of mid-life crisis that builds perspective. Very glad to hear that things are looking much better these days.
Posted by Rick Lundh on February 1, 2008 at 8:41 PM
She's a beauty, Eric! Thanks for the b-day wish...see you tomorrow night dude! :wavey:
Posted by Kevin McNeal on February 2, 2008 at 12:28 AM
Sorry I am late coming to the party ! Anyways happy b-day and I loved seeing the car pics as that is my wish on my 40th is the Porshe
Posted by Ned Fenimore on February 2, 2008 at 3:12 AM
That does it! Mr. Dunn!! You have the car I have been drooling over since I was young, and my bro - in - law had his 240Z.... ughh... Now I've got to get that enthusiast coupe I have been wanting...
Posted by Rick Dunn on February 2, 2008 at 10:16 AM
Well, Ned...whatever you do, DON'T take one for a test drive on a nice windy road! It's a little rocket ship. You get behind the wheel and next you thing you know you're doing math figuring "okay, if I don't eat lunch, that's $30 a week; give up beer, that's $12 a week (okay, $20... )...," which is all okay, of course. But then you'll take it for another test drive and start thinking, "I really don't need health insurance... or a 401(k)...."

It's great to know there's a lot of car enthusiasts here. Maybe the next gathering should be a combo road rally/photo outing/beer festival!
Posted by Rick Lundh on February 2, 2008 at 2:25 PM
Rick, now THAT sounds like a plan!!!
Posted by Mark Hudon on February 2, 2008 at 3:29 PM
If I had ever had a car like those, I'd be dead now. It's best for me to just stay away.
Rick, are you going to have money for the D3x when it comes out later this year?
Posted by Jim Jirka on February 2, 2008 at 3:31 PM
oh thats good!!!! cars and a beer fest.

i hope not at the same time.
Posted by Rick Lundh on February 2, 2008 at 6:56 PM
I'll have the money, but I really dont want the camera. I'm waiting for something better...
Posted by Mark Hudon on February 2, 2008 at 7:38 PM
Better than the D3x? 24mp?
Posted by Darren White on February 2, 2008 at 10:21 PM
Happy Belated B Day Rick L....

Too bad you bought a boxster.....chicks dig the 911's a bit more........I'm just saying!

And for the price you paid for that you could have had a sweet 911
Posted by Ned Fenimore on February 3, 2008 at 12:05 PM
What a party! Rick's feminine side really showed last night...
Posted by Mark Hudon on February 3, 2008 at 6:56 PM
???? I want to hear that story!
Posted by Rick Lundh on February 3, 2008 at 8:57 PM
Darren,
I actually dig the 911 more, but "chicks" so far dont have a problem with the Boxster  Do you have a 911?
Mark, I mixed Tia Maria with Vodka AND Jose Quervo Black! So I cannot be responable for my actions...but I cant believe what a firm tush Ned had...lol
Posted by Darren White on February 4, 2008 at 1:16 AM
Rick I DO NOT have a 911. A friend of mine does and the play is incredible.....

if this is your first Porsche I am sure you will find the play very exciting......and one day you will realize that it's more so with a 911 and a different type of woman......I'm just saying! :toast:
Posted by Curtis Knight on February 4, 2008 at 4:21 PM
If I had ever had a car like those, I'd be dead now. It's best for me to just stay away.

Mark, that's why I opted for a new pickup last year. :)

hmmm... I'm 46 this coming March and I haven't really had a mid-life crisis... maybe I should have one, 'cause it looks like you guys are having a lot of fun with yours!
