I will be in Corcovado for 10 days in late May and I was hoping to get some tips from anyone else who has been there. I will remain solely within Corcovado for the entire duration....therefore, what are my chances of photographing a Jaguar? What are the best times/spots? Are crocodiles common on the Sirena River? If so, are they as aggressive as their Aussie relatives? How strenuous is the hike from La Leona (where I'm staying, near Carate) to the Sirena Station? Any and all other recommendations/comments are welcome.
Hi, Brandon. I have not been to Corcovado NP in several years so cannot give you any specific info on that location. But having traveled extensively in Central and South America over the past 10 years, I can offer a couple of general hints. First, you chances of photographing (or even seeing) a jaguar ANYWHERE are extremely low unless you can find a local guide who has one "staked out" and knows its habits and its schedule. Second, you may see crocs on most any river, although caymans are more abundant and more common. Getting out on the river in a small boat will greatly enhance your chances of seeing and photographing these reptiles.
I know this isn't much help so I hope someone with more specific info will speak up with specifics.
