Anyone know if Nikon presented anything new at PMI this weekend. Looking for a full frame sensor that works with DX lenses.....

Aren't all lenses made to focus onto a sensor (film) at a precise distance from the back of the lens? And DX lenses have an image circle that is smaller than the dimensions (or at least doesn't cover them) of a "full frame" sensor. If I'm missing some other variable that could be tweaked, feel free to inform me, but I don't think that will ever happen. I do agree it would be nice if the new FX cameras from Nikon could use lighter, more compact lenses. I just think it's physics that keeps it from being possible (with the current lens line-up).
It is my understanding that the D3 will do this with some limitations. I have read that you get various degrees of vignetting or use a mode that requires only part of the sensor and gives fewer pixels.

Kent has it right. The D3 will use DX lenses, but by only using 5 MPixels of the sensor. A DX lens doesn't create a large enough image in the camera to cover the whole full frame sensor. You can tell the camera to use the full frame, but quite a lot of it will just be black, with a strange shape. (I've seen examples but can't find them...)
