Hooded Maerganser pair
I've gotten into the habit of carrying cameras around with me, even when doing something mundane like heading over to the county courthouse to get my truck tabs updated. (They made me replace the old ones this year . . . an additional thirty bucks . . . and the old ones were in perfectly good condition. That's government for you!)

At any rate, this pair of hooded mergansers was swimming around town (Point Hudson Marina) Friday morning and weren't alarmed by my being nearby. Townie wildlife are much less bothered by two-legged presence than their country cousins.

Canon 400D, EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM, f/16, 1/200, ISO 200, 400mm, hand-held, Port Townsend, Washington.

That's a nice catch, Norman - and a good habit, too. You never know when a Sasquatch might go running by..! I just picked up a compact, long-zoom camera to get back in the habit of taking more spontaneous shots.
