An easy Dartmoor landscape
For those of you who find Dartmoor difficult to photograph (which includes me), then get over to Merrivale and try this out. It will work well as a winter sunset and it is less than 5 minutes from the car. This is a morning shot so either way the lighting will work and with such a huge array of stones disappearing into infinity its a great an easy shot to take.

I went up there this weekend after seeing toboganing children on the local news. It was a mild morning and by the afternoon all the snow was literally gone.

Hope the blending is going well!

Great image Dave. Missed right out on the white stuff... busy photographing Blue Tits instead.

Didn't get any white stuff where I am, so I'm jealous.

Nice photo Dave.

I would have been tempted to try shooting closer, wider and lower to make more of the big rock. I'd suggest cropping a little from the bottom from this one.

Hi Dave,

Lovely rocks, nice capture! Interesting place - looks as if it has bags of potential! Not sure about this composition though, will be interesting to see more when you get them (especial if you’re going for a sunrise/sunset!)

The closer you ge to the main stone the more it overpowers the shot so you need some distance to make your eye comfortably wander the scene with it being thrust in your face. The shot workds best as a panoramic, but due to the fact that a 9000 wide image squashed to 700px looks like total crud, I thought I would show you this one.

Nice one David. Spot on exposure showing the detail in the snow. Agree that it would look better as a pano, but looks fine as presented. I like the way that you have used the row to move the eye across the image to the main stone.

Was too lazy to get up myself as I could not see any snow from the house the evening before  Was up there about 10 days ago in the evening (have never managed to get there in the morning) and the sun goes down right in the centre of your image, so not ideal but good views across towards the quarry.

Looks great to me David. Love the lines as said already and must get myself over there. I'm sure there's an image there for me with or without snow! Would love to see this large and appreciate the detail more :toast:
