Emperor dragon fly
One from summer 2002 I will probably never be as lucky again whilst taking images of black tailed skimmer this emperor dragonfly landed about two feet away from me (whilst I was kneeling in the water) to eat a small tortoiseshell butterfly it proceeded to take off and the land three or four times, each time coming back with a small tortoiseshell butterfly and eating it.

Phillip.

PP in NC442 & CS2

D1 sigma 180f2.8 macro 1/200@f10 iso200 HH (a lens they no longer make but if you ever see one second-hand get it as it is probably one of the finest macro lenses you can buy)

Good one Phillip, I'm sure you'll be as lucky again in some other wildlife event. 2002 eh, all I had then was an Olympus point and shoot and a Nikon 401S with a 70-210mm zoom.

Nice shot, sigma 180mm f2.8? Hmm thats a new lens to me, screw drive i assume? I liked the 180 f3.5 but i've settled on the 150 since i went to Nikon.

Tim, which Oly? I had an E-20 in about 2002.

S2 days for me Phil - and I won't say what I was photographing, but it certainly wasn't dragonflies

And I was still shooting film on my A1

I could still see me toes without leaning forward in those days too

Didn't manage to photograph a single one last year, but I've found a local pit where they've bred so hopefully this year....

I reckon this image would look good with 90CCW rotation - I don't think I've ever seen one perched horizontal :wavey:

Nice looking image - very vivid :toast:
