It sounds like some of you will be headed for Utah. While I love Winter I do really look forward to Spring time as well!

As far as I'm concerned, May can't get here soon enough. No specific plans for a Spring trip this year for me.

With the winter that we're having I can't wait for spring. I've been planning trips since the fall to destinations all over New Mexico, Utah and northern Arizona.

I'm with you, Derek. I'll be driving out to Redwoods (after a brief detour to San Francisco); hope to have a relaxing and productive week in May.

Four of us ol' timers here, all dads who don't get much time to shoot, GSENM Utah, April. Can't wait!!
I'll be going to London and greater Great Brittan in May. But it's not a dedicated photography trip. My wife will kill me if I make her stand around waiting for the light.
No photo-centric trips planned yet, though I am kicking around the idea of a Moab/Arches/Canyonlands trip in early April.

I've already got a whole bunch of 'em planned, including my first backpacking trip of the year coming up in March. It can't get here quick enough!

Moab - Maze early May
Key West - Dry Tortugas late May
I've been thinking about hitting Moab for a weekend in March, but haven't decided yet.
I'm gonna try to get to Mohawk Lakes again in late April or mid May

I hear ya about this trying winter. I moved from Minnesota to get away from long winters!! I'm in Utah right now (Bryce) and its far from spring-like here. The cold winds were really howling today. I don't have any specific plans yet for spring, but I plan to be busy. I'll basically be waiting to hear where the good wildflower blooms are happening in UT, NM and AZ.

I just bought a ticket minutes ago to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the NASCAR races on 3/1 and 3/2. I plan to use that as either the beginning or end of a road trip to either Death Valley or southern Utah, depending on what's happening, flower-wise. Except for travels in the southern Appalachians with Jerry, I really haven't done much out-of-state in recent years, and I really miss it! Starting to forget what the desert looks like.

i'll be heading to seattle in early may for a baby shower, but may take a day to hit mt rainier. it was pretty in the fall, but i didn't have enough time. now that the north/south road is open in the park once more, i won't have to drive all the way out of the park to get to the south side. i'll also be around pike place market and may shoot down on the water one evening. Derek- if you're heading there around the first weekend in May, give me a shout.

I'm leaving for Lindsay Calif near Sequoia at the end of Feb and will lay over in a few of the National Parks along the way (I'll have an eye pealed for you, Todd).

Not sure if it's technically spring but I'm headed to the Grand Canyon 2 weeks from today. Just got back from 4 days on Vancouver Island in early January. Sadly, my wife is starting to grouse about how far behind I'm getting on my suburban homeowner's repair list so this spring may be kind of slow photographically.
Anyone looking to be on the South rim around 2/22 shoot me an e-mail and I'll meet you for coffee.

I've got a few little treks planned to Wyoming and possibly Montana and down to New Mexico too. Other than that, not a lot of early plans other than shooting in the Wet Mtns area and down in the San Juans by late June early July.

Looks like its going to be a great melt off and wildflower season in the Teton/Yellowstone area. I'll be heading there mid May-mid June. Will also be heading to Moab on March 21 to meet a couple friends and shoot Arches etc. Also will continue to shoot RMNP as It's a quick 35 minute drive up the Canyon. Can't wait for the warmer weather.

Wow, it sounds like everyone is going to be really active in the near future.
I look forward to hearing the Spring trip reports from everyone.
Don, I was in the Tetons/Yellowstone last year at the same time. It was amazing. It looks like this year they have a better snow pack. So wildflowers could be really good while you are there.
Amy, I'm glad to hear you have another opportunity to see Rainier. I won't be headed that far north on this trip. But I want to do that trip along with the Northern Cascades (Picket Range, Shuksan, Baker) another time.

I can wait for spring, either!!!
So far the only plans are a Canyonlands/Maze trip.
...but next week I am off to Tucson, AZ for a moutain bike race where it is Spring alreday (temps in the 70s)

Moab in April, RMNP on a regular basis, and probably a trip out to the Pawnee Grasslands. If I'm lucky, Moab twice!
Posted by Stan Rose on February 7, 2008 at 8:53 PM
Definitely headed out for my annual storm chase in May--this will be my first chance to grab a tornado shot with my 5D, so im psyched! Location: somehwere and everywhere between Canada and Mexico.
Allright, Paul - one person heading to the (Pawnee) Grasslands! I think I'll go to the Comanche a couple of times, North Park for sage grouse, and Gunnison for Gunny sage grouse. Can't beat sitting in a freezing cold blind in the dark.

Last week of March to Alabama (flowers), early April SE Montana (grouse), June SE WA for agricultural shots,
tomorrow around here (SW Montana along the Madison R. to try to catch a herd of elk being chased by wolves. Reportedly they were out yesterday and it is 40 degrees and melting fast today so the passes may get open fairly soon and let the elk escape. This has been one "old fashioned" winter here! I can't remember when we have had so much continuous wind! Luckily the temps weren't too low most of the time.

Cool Grace!
It is great to hear this interesting news from Montana. Please post some shots if you happen to get anything. I would especially like to see some wolves which I hear are very tricky to photograph in the wild.
I love your name BTW (my 2 y/o's name as well).

Making my annual spring trek to Tucson next week, have a trip planned for the Wave in April, and maybe Moab or Monument Valley in the summer when family comes out to visit.
Is it me, or has this winter on the Front Range been particularly rotten? Lots of cold weather and not much snow. Hasn't been much fun at work, either.
Posted by Derek Sedillo on February 19, 2008 at 11:14 AM
Great plans Bob. I have been wanting to visit the wave and Monument Valley.
Posted by Bob Falcone on February 20, 2008 at 1:00 AM
Derek, it sure does look like a summer shot!
The Wave requires a BLM pass to get to. Some are given out in advance, and those for the days I plan on being there have been long gone. Some are given out each day, and hopefully, we'll get some then. If not, we may do some of the slot canyons out that way.
Monument Valley is a favorite of mine. I last visited there several years ago, and last April I took some photos of it from the Utah side while on a trip to shoot old indian ruins. I'm always in awe when I see it.

24 repliesWe might even catch some 'Spring' wildflowers. I can't forget last April when Darren White killed me with this shot:

This Winter started out great and then just sort of dragged for me, especially after catching a cold. I think part of the reason it has dragged on has been in anticipation of my Spring trips. LOL... Here is a sort of funny 'cold Winter' shot from the PNW forum:
