Spring is...springing.

Hi Rich, Welcome to CSNP! Thanks for coming out this morning, it was good to get to meet you and shoot for awhile. I really like the richness of the greens in this shot and the wonderful light and translucent quality of the icicle. The right side of the image is very nice and worthy of even tighter scrutiny.

When you do post here, remember that you can post up to 720 pixels on the longest side. Bigger is always better when viewing on the web! Thanks for posting. Hope you'll stop by often and maybe even join NPN! :wavey:

Welcome Richard. Great to see you here at CSNP and posting an image from our outing. I thought these icicles and the moss lit up by the early sun looked pretty interesting. I know you had the wide lens on but I agree with Wayne, a tighter crop of the right side would look pretty good. Hopefully this was just the 1st of several outings to come.

Rich - welcome. Good to be able to shoot with you yesterday. I shot the same spot but in the opposite direction. I like the feel of yours better. And yes, a tighter crop on the right would help. Hope to see you at the next shoot.

Thank you all for your input. I love the fact that I've found a forum for comparison and critique. There seem to be some suggestions that the right side of the photograph needs a little more attention. Would you recommend eliminating the contrasting, out-of-focus left side altogether and opting for a vertical (5:7, as opposed to 7:5, for instance) crop? Or is it being suggested that I tighten up the crop to the right of the icicle? Would there have been a better composition for the shot altogether?

You might try a square crop and see what that looks like. The bright spot in the upper left keeps pulling my eye away.

Rich, my suggestion would be to crop to vertical, placing the main subject in a power point. You may want to lose just a little of the right side, just play with it a little and I think you'll like the results.

It looks like I'm limited to one photograph every 72 hours. Here is my next attempt:

Welcome Richard! I took a look at what you did to rework the image. Nicely done, I think it's a stronger image than the first on posted. Well done and thanks for sharing!

The repost seems much better to me. Good work. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
