I was ready to purchase a Wimberley Sidekick for my 200-400 VR, but yesterday heard about theMongoose M-3.5 Action Head over at Bird Photographers.net. I know
Arthur Morris sells them on his site. Does anyone have any experience with them? I had only heard good things about the sidekick before, but there were some negative posts about it on BPN....thought I would see what people here thought....thanks....Nate.

Nathan, I spent a lot of time weighing and measuring the pros and cons and I just ordered the full Wimberley Head rather than the sidekick. Not only can it be used for the bigger lenses but it also can be used to mount your camera carrying a smaller lens directly on the head using two small plates.

Send me an eMail if you want to see the photos and information Wimberley sent to me.

The lesser weight wins for me I have been using my Mongoose 3.5 for 4 moths with my 500 and 1D Mark 3 with no problems and appreciate the lighter weight compared to the full Wimberly when traveling or carrying the rig in the field :jump: :jump: Tom Merigan

Another choice is the King Cobra. I've been using one for 4 years. Works great built by Kirk Enterprises. Only draw back is the lens mounts from a side plate vs a flat plate. Price was great. I agree with Carol if your going to purchase the Wimberley buy the full blown version.
As your lens collection grows to the supertele's you won't be sorry. The King Cobra handles a 600 f.4 with no problems.

Thanks for the input...I actually already own the full size wimberley head for my 600, but wanted to be able to have both the 600 and the 200-400 mounted at the same time (helps get my girlfriend out shooting with me  ) Anyone know which mount detaches most quickly from the lens? Thanks again...nate
