I installed a trial version of Lightroom while in Ushuaia, Argentina to help keyword and process RAW files from my 1DsMkIII and 5D and the wife's XTi. CS3 was not showing RAW thumbnails from either camera but when clicking on the generic CR2 icon produced by CS3, it would open the file in ACR 4.3(the latest update). So Lightroom was downloaded on my Vista laptop and it showed the thumbnails making it easier to process keepers, discard losers, and keyword.
Well, I'm home now and found that when transferring RAW files off the portable USB hard drives that were processed and keyworded in LR, I discovered that none of the processing, keywording or file naming showed up in CS3 on my desktop (WinXP). So now I have to redo it all and am wondering if LR should be tossed aside.
By the way, my RAW thumbnails from all 3 cameras show up on the desktop WinXP as expected, and it has the same updated CS3,ACR version as the Vista laptop!
Is there a special thing I need to do when saving my LR work onto the external USB harddrives in order to allow the processing, keywording to open in CS3? By the way, the keywording, etc. does not come up on my laptop CS3 program either.
I was able to batch rename files using CS3(laptop)and those new file names came up on the desktop CS3. However, I was not able to apply new metadata, copyright info, etc using the the laptop CS3.
Anyways, I've attached a quick cropped shot (~50% of original size)from the 1DsMkIII as a teaser to a new gallery that will be up on my website in a couple of months. This shows an Adelie and a Chinstrap Penguin porpoising in from a foraging mission in the ocean to their nests on Gourdan Island in the South Shetlands.
The trip was one of the most amazing trips I've ever been on, despite having a couple of bouts of seasickness out on the South Atlantic in 10-15 feet swells.

Don,
You probably did not request that Lightroom create XMP files to automatically store your settings?
Go to: File / Catalog Settings / Metadata and select: "Automatically write changes into XMP".
To create these files for your existing images, go to: Photo\Save Metadata to File
Hope that solves your problem.
Looking forward to your gallery.

Cool shot!
I believe there's two ways you can handle this. If you hit Ctrl+S in Lightroom it will save the metadata to the XMP file for any files you have selected. Or, what I do is immediately convert all files imported into lightroom to DNGs. Then the metadata is automatically saved with the files. To do this, select the photos you want to convert and select Library > Convert Photos to DNG.

Bill and Grant are correct, if you want to take your tagged raw files into CS3 from LR you need the xmp sidecar files which will hold the keywords, IPTC info etc.
Also, if you have done any processing in the develop module of LR, you will want to 'export' those files from LR so you get an image file with the processing applied. Remember, LR just stores the actions needed to render to the final image and those actions/steps are stored in a database - all part of the non-destructive editing.
Ideally, if you already have your files in a LR catalog, I'd import that catalog into your main catalog and let LR continue to do the file management. Then individually export/edit images in CS3 as needed. Use CS3 for image editing and LR for image management.
Since we're local, I'd be happy to stop by and help you sort out the LR/CS3 connection if that would help. Just drop me an email.

As Grant mentioned, if you use DNG files, the LR edits are stored within that file and you don't have an extra XMP file hanging around. I, therefore, convert my RAW files to DNG files during initial import. Just an option that you might want to consider.

Thanks Bill, Grant, and Kalin. I appreciate the quick and accurate response, you guys rock!
Checking the box to "Automatically write changes into XMP" did the trick. The keywords and processing come up in CS3 on my desktop. They still don't on the laptop CS3, but I think that's a CS3/Vista issue. since the File Info option is grayed out when clicking on a RAW icon, since thumbnails aren't being produced. I might have to wipe CS3 off the laptop and reload it, resetting preferences and purging cache doesn't correct it.
