Some Pics from Ouray
I've been super crazy busy this last month or so, and I haven't even shot my 4x5 once since getting back from Patagonia in December. :frown:

But, in the last few weeks I've been able to get out for some quickie backcountry riding around Ouray. Here's some digi pics from that, and a few pics from in Ouray.

I wish I had more discipline to stop and take some action photos of my friends skiing and snowboarding, but when I'm riding I just want to ride.

Wowza that's a lot of snow. Lovely pictures Jack.

Must be absolute hell having to live in such a drab place, Jack. These are very exciting. #2 in particular, and #3 to a slightly lesser extent, are mind-bogglingly awesome!

Yeah there is a ton of snow here. Last week they blasted a bunch of HUGE avalanches up on Red Mtn Pass. The other day we drove over and there is one spot in particular where the avy debris crossed the road twice over a switchback, and the debris where they plowed through it must be 20 feet deep.

Todd - yeah it's so boring here... nothing to do but shovel snow.

You've been getting some serious snowfall, very cool! Especially like the 2nd one.

Off topic:Thanks for the info on Torres del Paine! We had an amazing time with TdP being the finale to a once in a lifetime trip. The 1st day in TdP we had 70 degree weather and not much wind, but the next 3 days the wind was determined to regain its reputation, with one day feeling like gusts of over 100mph which had me bracing with every step. The last morning a rain/snow storm broke open about 30-60 minutes after sunrise creating some mind-altering landscape shots of the Horns. I hiked up to the Torres base, but started too late (11:30am) and they were in shadow by the time I got there 3½ hours later, I was thinking I could do it in 2½ hrs up, but the 3000 ft elevation gain took its toll, as I hadn't gotten enough pre-trip workouts done.

Jack, amazing light on the Amphitheater. All really cool. That's some serious snow on those roofs.

Very nice stuff, Jack. I haven't gotten up to the north side of the San Juans in a while now. They certainly have their fair share of snow, that's for sure. And more is on the way!! That shot along Camp Bird road is my favorite of the bunch.

You've got a nice group here Jack.

Wow, that's a ton of snow. Cool shots, Jack. The quality of light on a few of these is awesome, #2 is great with the skiers in the foreground.

Awesome job, Jack. #2 really sticks out to me.

Love that snow! I feel your pain. Except for an afternoon along the Big Sur coast last week, I haven't been shooting since December. Thanks for sharing these shots, makes me want to get out in the snow!

Excellent images, Jack; however, number two is superb!

I'm jealous! Great stuff, Jack.

Awesome! #2 is the clear winner--i was wondering what that road looked like in winter--now i know!
Posted by Jack Brauer on February 13, 2008 at 12:20 PM
Thanks for your comments everyone... that's a great thing about posting here... I wouldn't have necessarily thought #2 was so much better.

Stan - that isn't actually the road... we're skinning up above Camp Bird at this point. The road is plowed quite a ways during the winter, and it has become quite the Ouray tradition to go sledding down it on those Mountain Boy sleds. I tried it out once... it's crazy fun.

Jack, you don't think #2 ROCKS

#2 and #3 are really nice.

Great to see you back out and not just shoveling snow. BTW, send some our way!

Yep, 2 & 3 rock alright! Plus those two images just have FUN written all over them. That looks like a blast. Makes we want to be there right now. Thanks for sharing these.

#2 is soooo awesome. Makes me want to get down to Ouray again.

These are awesome Jack! I have never been down there in the winter - I think I need to change that. The XC ski shots are awesome. Looks so peaceful.

I really like the first image. All are very nice!
