I´ve only read good reviews about this lens. Does anybody have experience with it?? Would it be worth paying this much amount of money on it?
I thought about buying the Tamrom or the Sigma 28-300mm, but I´ve read really bad reviews on those two, specially regarding sharpness, which really concerns me...
The thing is I´ve been doing lots of mountain traveling in groups and not always I have the time to stop and change lenses as I´d like, so what I´m looking into is a good all range zoom lens. I know this means some compromise, but one can´t have everything...
My main concern is weight, but I always end up carrying too much anyway...I guess I´ll just have to leave something else behind (those chocolate bars for example)...
Any comments would be highly appreciated!

I LOVE my Canon 28-300! It is well worth the price. I love being able to go from wide angle to 300mm easily. Sometimes having a bigger lens is frustrating -- the bird or animal comes too close and you cannot focus anymore. I use it for lots of things. It is a sharp lens and I can handhold it (although I always try to use a tripod).

Lisa,,,I took a look at your portfolio to see if any of your shots were taken with the 28-300.
While doing so I saw your image of the Great Horned owl with its wing spread over its chick.
IT WAS FANTASTIC!

I haven't used that lens myself though I have seen the lens in person and a fair number of images from it on the web.
It seems like the Canon 28-300 gets good reviews on image quality but that it isn't quite as good as lenses designed for shorter zoom ranges. And I think this is what you'd expect. A 10X zoom is going to make some compromises to meet its functional requirements. Its also alot bigger and heavier than say a 28-70.
Its also really big and heavy compared to a normal zoom. You certainly aren't going to go unnoticed carrying it around. And you might prefer to carry a lighter lens at times.
But if this is a lens that will provide the functionality you need, it seems there is nothing else like it, and I'd say its worth the money.
