Does anyone know if the scaffolding at San Xavier del Bac still up?
Thanks!

Dear René!
According to the http://emol.org/tucson/sanxavier/ website:
Resconstruction briefly stopped - March and April ideal photo time
By the end of February 2008, all of the scaffolding on the west side of San Xavier Mission will be taken down. In May, it will be set up on the east side of the mission. The months of March and April will be the best time to take photos without the interuption of the scaffolding.
The new scaffolding will be in place for the next three years while the San Xavier Mission continues it restoration. Restoration work is paid with funds raised by Patronato San Xavier, a local non profit group. The restoration of the church sanctuary began in 1992 and was finished in 1997.
I have not been past the mission since the restoration began, though, so take that into consideration when making your decision on whether to visit or not. Based on the above, however, I plan to visit in March and will try to let you know for sure. Just try to send me an email to remind more or I will probably forget.

I was just getting ready to ask this question myself! I'll be in Tucson next week for my yearly baseball (and photography) pilgrimage. I have been frustrated over the last several years with not being able to get a good "full" shot of the mission.
Rene, if I'm heading down there before you go, I'll post whether this schedule is being kept.

As of this evening, the scaffolding is still up on the west side. It's hard to tell if they've even started to remove it yet, but the west cupola is exposed. I just don't recall how much of it was exposed last year at this time. i'll check on it again in a few days.
Well, it's the end of February, and the scaffolding is still up, and it doesn't look like it's coming down anytime soon.
Although the website cited gave info about the scaffolding coming down, the official San Xavier website says nothing about the scaffolding.
Someday, I'll get a photo of it without scaffolding!
