I have a chance to buy an Epson R1800 which has been on display in our store for about a year. The problem is the cartridges were installed but this printer has not been used in at least 9 months. I fear the print heads are clogged and would like to know if there is any way to unclog them. I can get this printer for about $100.00 but the price means nothing if it is irreperably damaged...any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

You can run the nozzle check and have the maint system do a cleaning to clear if there is pluggage. You should ask get the store to put in fresh ink set for this procedure. If they cannot run the check I would get the managers assurance if the heads are plugged you could return the printer and then test with the curretnt ink set.
I have gone over 9 months without printing on my R1800. I live in a humid environment though. If after a nozzle check it shows banding, I can usually run a few nozzle cleaning cycles and everything is fine. Do as James suggests and run a few nozzle checks to make sure nothing is clogged.
