Early March, I have some training in Heber City. I am flying into SLC and have added a little time in my travels for 5 hours on arrival and departure date. Any places in the vicinity of Heber City, or from the airport to Heber City for some photography, landscape primarily?
Any ideas on places and what weather to expect would be appreciated.
For general interest I'd be inclined to take 215/15 south the Spanish Forks, then drive back north on 113 to Heber. I'm not real familiar with 113, but it's a smaller road than 40 and allows you to miss Park City. If time permits I'd venture on up to Soldier Summit from the Forks on 6/50, then backtrack to connect with 113. In a good snow year there's really nice stuff on the approaches and at the summit, but the shots depend a lot on light. I'd sure do a weather check before picking 113 though. I-40 gets a lot more maintenance, and if there's a big snow dump you'll be more likely to arrive in Heber on time.
Hank, the drive to Spanish Fork and back will probably take up most of the 5 hours so I wouldn't recommend it on a short trip. From Heber you're just a couple of miles from the eastern mouth of Provo Canyon. Driving up and down the canyon will have plenty to keep you busy. Make a detour into Sundance for great views of Mt. Timpanogos.
The best roads will unfortunately be closed this time of year.

You can also head up to Park City or head the other direction to Daniel's canyon near Daniel's summit (roads should be good) then get off the trail a bit and have plenty to look at
