Hello all. I've just joined, I'm very new to this forum stuff and very much a dinosaur when it comes to computers. Never posted anything on the web before so it probably won't even show on screen but here goes anyway.
This is a shot I took at Formby on the 4th Feb. My first trip there and was delighted to get some reasonable pics. However, my partner who used to live in this area was dismayed at just how few squirrels were around. It would appear that this virus is hitting them hard.

Taken on a Canon 30D body with sigma 500mm at 800 asa (light was poor)

Hello Robert - welcome to UKNPN :toast: :toast: :toast:

Looks a nice image but can you redo it to 720 pixels on its longest side - then all us blind duffers can appreciate it better

Looking forward to seeing many more

Same advice as Andy.

Hi Robert, welcome and upload a bigger image next time as it's hard to see what it's really like

Sorry folks, as I mentioned I'm very new to this web posting. Will try again tomorrow, apparently only one pic posted each day. Just to confirm, do I size the image (tiff) up at 720 longest side at standard resolution and then when saving as jpeg I reduce the quality until it shows file size of 200 or less?

Robert - take your 30D raw file, convert to a 16 bit tiff at the same pixel dimensions.

Do your processing work then convert image to 8 bit and save to your archive.

DOWNSIZE a copy of this 8 bit image to 720 by 480 (or whatever) then save as a jpeg and post it.

As a postscipt to what Andy has said, leave any sharpening until last, after you have downsized. HIH

Hi and a warm welcome, I think as a member you can add an image in your thread, someone will correct me if I am wrong.
