Sad state of affairs
Not posted for critique, just posted as this is the first time I've encountered such a situation. This Guillemot was sat in the mud absolutely helpless (I was full frame at 1000mm)and he couldn't move. I watched him for a while and then it was still there on my return about an hour odd later, so I knew it wasn't well.

I watched the local wardens of Dawlish Warren Reserve catch it without much of a struggle at all. Turns out a local fisherman had emptied a load of oil off the side of his boat and this was one of the casualties. This bird was off to an oiled birds sanctuary in South Devon which has a 70% success rate. Shame about the other 30% and the fact it's mainly due to recklessness and total disregard for anything other than themselves

But on the plus side, met up with Chris Lloyd who came out with his macro gear as he didn't fancy the walk around the reserve with the big lenses, so not much shooting was done, but good to chat and meet up. Nice one Chris!

Very sad to see! This sort of scenes always make me very angry. Good to know the bird is in good hands now. I hope he pulls through!

Indeed a very sad state of affairs, and an excellent image to highlight the plight of these seabirds, people who knowingly do this should be boiled in oil......

Yet another innocent victim of mankind's dependency on oil.
My petrol powered car (Honda Jazz) will be going as soon as I can find a much greener alternative. This seems very attractive technology

I hope it will a viable alternative to oil based transport.

Yes Craig I have one, (British Eagle mountain bike) but after my heart attack last year I have had to curtail its use somewhat. I am back playing badminton (not as many games as before) and have starting riding my bike again but I have been told not to over do it which is sometimes hard to take. I have a bus pass (I'm 62) but have not used it yet. A car is very useful for journeys where buses and trains cannot reach, but it is weighing heavily on my consience that I am contributing to pollution and global warming every time I use it. So
I strictly limit its use to unavoidable journeys. It is just over two years old and done only 3400 miles. :toast: :toast:

In some ways I feel sorry for the plight of the fishermen in this country. However, some of their practices and methods really need to be re-assessed and maybe a few more people would be willing to sympathise with them.

This type of behavior is unacceptable and they should have to face some sort of fine or other punishment.

I don't suppose this fellow cares who did it or how much they struggle to make a living. I hate to see this. Looks like Crude to me but I'm no expert. An eloquent picture Graeme.
