Lost Exif data w/ "Save for Web"?

Hi all! I just realized that many of my jpegs I've created via Save for Web have lost all exif data. I don't really care about exposure data so much but my name, website, and copyright notice are gone! I just started using save for web in CS2 to keep the quality higher. Prior to that I was using Save As without a problem.

Anyone having a similar problem? Any suggestions on how to use save for web and retain exif data? Guess I'll have go back to what works if I can't find a work around or a setting that needs adjustment.

Cory, Save-for-Web attempts to create the smallest file for web presentation. Exif is superfluous data for web use and is stripped out. If you want to keep it you need to use Save-As.

What Guy says - Or you can re-attach your metadata with copyright info after creating the image before posting. This allows you to precisely control the file size but still have metadata attached. I use Bridge to attach metadata.

Ditto. I've recently found out that if I use Save for Web, all my EXIF info disappears, therefore I only use Save for Web if I absolutely, positively have no choice.

Thanks for the clarity guys!! I got into the habbit of adding keywords and such into the master file. Looks like I out smarted myself.

It's goo to know the difference when you are dealing with clients, Cory. Some want the exif data for image tracking in their own shops, along with release info and subject ID. Others prefer images without. It's a part of our client interviews now, after a brief run-in on some PJ images I shot for the AP. Turns out they specifically want Save For Web.
