I've been going through the archives re-processing old photos with Lightroom and I've realized that ACR and Lightroom don't play well together. "What the hell are you talking about?", you ask. Here is what I have discovered:
All of my old images that were originally processed in ACR will not "save as" once exported to Photoshop. I have no problem working the image in Lightroom and no issues processing in Photoshop. It even works when I hit the "save" button. But when I resize the image, change to 8 bit and convert to profile, then click "save as" I get an error message. So, I'm forced to "save as jpeg" thereby stripping out all the metadata.
Oh, what a pain in the ass. Anyone experience this and figure out how to work around it?

What's the error message?
I don't think this has anything to do with ACR and LR compatibility.
In general, if you use the "Edit in Photoshop" command from Lightroom, you are supposed to do a regular Save, because Lightroom is maintaining a live link to that file. Doing a Save As will not update/import automatically back into Lightroom.
If you want to do a Save As... from Photoshop then use the Export command from Lightroom instead.

Nat: I'm using "Export to Photoshop". I just tried the "save as" again with the same image I had trouble with previously and didn't get the error message. I don't know what the heck this thing is doing...
