Lovely pose. Sits very nicely against the beautiful background.

He's a bit central for my taste Tim and I concur with John about softness around the head - but it's a nice shot, well exposed and well processed sharpness aside - shows the markings very well - nice one
Lovely shot.
Whereabouts in south Wales was it taken? I`ve seen a few here in the Swansea area, and have set up a feeding area hoping to attract them, but they don`t seem interested, prefering the local stubble fields.

Thanks for the comments.
Jeremy, this was taken on farmland near Chepstow at a feeding station/hide at the edge of an oak wood. The small numbers of brambling feed on loose seed on the ground but, if you're lucky they hop on a perch beforehand.

Lovely shot of this difficult to capture species!
It could use another round of USM but that has allready been mentioned enough.
Well done!

Hi Tim,
Nits covered enough. Nice capture nonetheless!

Lucky you to get so close I haven't seen one for a quite a few years.
OK head is a touch soft (with the Sigma 500 you can correct the focus to be on the eye manually, which is my usual method) and it is a touch central, but it is a nice image.
