Bit of a 'species id' type of shot - this little fellow turned up on my squirrel 'posing log'.

I'm having a ball with my rejuvenated big glass and this D300 doing 8fps

Using the AF fine-tune the RAWs are so bloomin sharp:jump:

D300
Sig 300-800
ISO 400
1/400 @ f7.1 -0.7EV

PP in Bibble Pro and down-sized in CS3 with GenFrac.

Thanks for looking as always :toast: :toast:

Thanks Edwin - yes, I had a proper 'posser' turn up this afternoon http://www.wildlifeinpixels.com/img/DSC3115.jpg

Tiffs look better - I'm noticing that images worked in Bibble tend to lose a bit of 'punch' when compressed and coverted to sRGB - unless I'm doing something wrong, which ain't exactly out of the question

Gosh its not upside down, typical pose but I feel the 'silver birch' perch should be vertical(ish).... am I making sense?

wish we saw more of these in the south east....

Nice one Andy, is the lens wheeled out on a track like one of the old WW1 guns, LOL :jump:

Nice shot andy, no nits from me, howis the 800 now?
Posted by Andy Astbury on February 17, 2008 at 6:55 AM
Absolutely stunning Paul - it's not my old lens, it's a new freshly imported model straight from Kanagawa, and Sig UK's service department spent most of Wednesday and Thursday calibrating it to a D40 - doesn't say much for Japans QC does it?!

It still front-focusses a tiny bit on the D300, but running the AF fine tune at +6 for subjects like geese and +7 for the small stuff close-in, the raws are tack sharp.

Focus plane seems fine on the D2Xs, a lot better the the D300 with no AF tunning.

I know Phillip is using his D300/800 prime combo with some -ve AF tuning but not as much as me - whether that's a difference between the 800 prime and the 300-800, or it's a difference in D300 bodies or user setup I don't know.

Thank for enquiring matey :toast:

Very nice work, great BG

Hi Andy

Agree it could do with a little more USM - great light although I do feel a different BG colour would have set it off better!

I suppose with that 800 you don't have to get out of bed to get the shots now.
Nice pic by the way.
