I am looking at the Gitzo 3540XLS and the Gitzo 3540LS...i am leaning towards the XLS...anyone out there used either...thoughts etc. I will use it for landscapes with a RRS BH-55 ballhead, as well as with a sidekick for a 200-400 VR. Also thinking about getting a Gitzo leveling base...anyone used one? Thanks...Nate

Just got a Gitzo 3540XLS, and realize I've never had a great tripod before. The G-Lock system on the legs makes setup fast. With my Wimberley II head the whole platform will be rock solid for my 500/4. When travelling light, I'll use my Acratech Ultimate head.

I'm tall, and it's a joy to have the viewfinder at eye level, and still have the lowest section of legs to go when on a sidehill or other situation where extra height is required.

I have an Acratech leveling base on the way, which I chose because it's lighter and a bit cheaper than the Gitzo equivalent.

I am using a 3540LS and love it. I am 6 foot tall and find it to be tall enough for me with the RRS BH 55.
