Today was the first time I had been to Silver Falls State park as a photographer. I had been here about 8 years ago before I really started doing landscape work. Both times I had been here before I did not have a camera with me. After seeing so many great shots of these falls, I decided it was time to take a stab at it and see what I could muster up.
I was pretty excited about spending the day here checking out all 10 Waterfalls. Much to my surprise, most of the trails were closed due to storm damage and what was supposed to be an 8.7 mile hike, ended up being about 2 or 3 miles and only getting to see 2 good falls....
I will try hitting this again in the spring after the park crews have had some time to re-build the trail system and more lush foilage is out in bloom.
Also, this morning it was very icy on the trails, lots of slipping and sliding on the way down.....
This was taken on my way back to the car around 11am.
EXIF data

Sweeet Shot! When I saw Ned's comment about a Winter theme I was thinking it looked more like a Summer theme from a Colorado perspective.

The rays do add a lot to the image, but that brush thats highlighted in the LRC bugs me a bit.
The administration for SFSP definitely seems way over cautious. They're always closing trails due to storm damage, which 9 times out of 10 doesn't amount to more than a downed tree or three. Always bugs the hell out of me when I'm down there. In, I believe, 6 visits now, I've still not been able to get to Lower South Falls because that section of the trail has always been closed when I've passed through.

Really like the light rays.

Darren,
this is a nice composition that would benefit from more scenic foreground....like you'll probably get when you re visit in the spring. I hope you can catch the sun rays as you did here, but maybe get a little more light and clarity in the rocks under the falls then.

Great timing on the rays, and the falls are nice. Somehow the FG isn't doing for me. It's too messy, and doesn't hold my interest.

Very nice sun rays complimenting the falls Darren! (I do agree vegetation filling the branches in the foreground would be optimal, but that's a minor point to me.) Nice job on exposure here.
