If this is anywhere near full frame Andy you can become my official LG photographer - I spent ages last week trying for a shot this close
The only slight neg is that the LG is a bit close to the BG - if it were mine I'd a: clone out the pale grass stalk and reflection above his back and then b: run both Burn and Blur brushes along the BG wall just to de-emphasise it a bit.
NICE JOB Andy

Hi Andrew
The BG is a little distracting and cotrasty but a very strong image of the bird!

Hi Andy,
Nice shot i like that you seem to be at the same level as the bird.
Nice one, I can never get close to these or get a decent viewpoint, as said bg is a tad distracting but not major.... I have just noticed your shutter speed, great to get a bird on water sharp at 1/80th...
Question about your outlined workflow...
Why levels, contrast and shadow/highlight ?

Hi Andy,
Cool capture! Nice detail in the subject but the background is a little busy for my taste.

Well done with the bird Andrew good strong image. I would just try to blur the BG to tone it down with out having to do too much.

Fine image of a secretive and restless subject - nits covered. Eric

Hi to all,
Thanks for the comments and the advice
Andy : re Burn and Blur brushes , my PS skills dont reach that far
Phil : re Why Levels , Contrast and Shadow/highlight ?
Levels to slightly lift the image , Contrast to try and tone it down a little and Shadow/highlight to bring out a little detail in the facial area , PS isn't my strong point.
