I have greatly enjoyed the lively forums and appreciate this website. This is my first post. I was curious about being a "Nature Photographer Magazine"'s field correspondent. Is it advantageous, or are there other better methods for getting your fist publications, are the prices paid for photos competitive, basically what are peoples experience with this?

Several of my first published articles were with that magazine. I think it is a worthwhile venture since most other publications are not aware of the fact that only "field contributors" can submit images or written work. So, when approaching other mags, you can use this one as an example of your work. The pay is quite low, but the upside is that the circulation is huge. The people who run the mag, Helen and Marty, are great and are always willing to discuss article ideas on the phone with their contributors. All in all, my time with them was a rewarding experience.

Dan, I'm not sure if you are aware but these are two separate entities. Nature Photographer "magazine" is in fact owned and published by Helen Longest-Saccone and Marty Saccone and the magazine has its own website (not this one). Nature Photographers Online Magazine is totally separate from the published magazine.

By the way, everything Scott said has been true for me too with regards to the published magazine. Good luck out there!
