Heron on Log
I haven't posted for quite awhile. But, I finally have my MAC running right. It crashed twice - once in November and again in January. They had to replace the logic board (thank God for coverage), and now it seems to be running fine. This is a shot I took last summer at Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area. I know it's not a wall hanger but I like it.

Comments etc welcome. Thanks for looking.

A MAC that crashes? That is not supposed to happen. The heron was posing nicely for you. Standing nice and tall. Nice reflection.

It seems that when Macs do crash, it's almost always a hardware problem, as in this case. The software is what makes them so stable; runs on UNIX instead of DOS. Can't wait till a Mac is in my budget, but I have a pretty fast PC to replace. Oh yeah, the picture. It was quite nice of this heron to pose so tall for you. It seems a little too centered. I might suggest cropping a little from the top and left. But it's a great shot either way.

I like Dominic's cropping suggestion, and would throw in a touch of additional contrast to enhance that nice light.

Thanks guys for the comments. RE: the MAC. The shop told me they have had two logic board crashes in the past month. Regardless of which unit you buy - get the extended warranty. This one is still under the original coverage. Cost for a logic board replacement - $650.....

The photo - The crop ideas are good. If I have time later today I will crop and add the contrast as suggested. I was shooting a 20D, 100/400 at 400, 1/400, F/9, ISO 200. I should have pumped up the ISO but I was driving and stopped to shoot from inside my P/U with the window frame as a stabilizer. The heron didn't stick around once it saw me trying to move closer for a better shot.

Nice shot of the Heron and glad he decided to pose for you.

I haven't tried very often but when I have, Heron's don't stick around long. A stately pose and a nice shot under the circumstances. I like the cropping idea too. Thanks for posting Merle. :wavey:

Here's one with the crop and a little more contrast.

The crop is a better composition and the adjustments work too. That 'log' looks like a corner post from a four post bed?

Looks like it's time to clean the sensor (mine's horrible!). I see a few spots. BTW, nice improvement with the crop & contrast adj.
