Weymouth Woods is a longleaf pine barrens ecosystem located an hour from the Triangle and Triad regions of NC, and an hour and a half from Greenville SC. This ecosystem is quite unique and distinctive from the other kinds of pine and hardwood ecosystems in most of the south, because the landscape is maintained by periodic fire. Natural in the times before widespread fire suppression, and now by controlled burning in the Weymouth Woods nature preserve.

I would like to invite all of the SENPers to spend a half day wandering around the open forests and compelling sights of Weymouth Woods and taking pictures.

Tentatively, I would like to recommend we meet at 1:00 PM Saturday March 15th at the Weymouth Woods visitors center. If that date doesn't work we can discuss other options. Please post to this thread if you are interested in this trip.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from Weymouth Woods.

Your pictures of the woods are great.

I won't be able to make it from Florida on March 15, but my sister recently moved to Raleigh, so I will probably be in your neck of the woods (pun intended) in the next 6-12 months. I hope we can meet up when I'm there.

Bill, that's great!

Lance, I'd love to meet up for a sunrise or sunset shoot out at the lake while you're here if you have time. . .

Matthew, everything still on go for tomorrow? Thanks!

I'm still interested in going tomorrow.

Looks like scattered storms in the afternoon are possible. Let's get a count of people who are still in versus those who want to pick another day. If most of you want to choose another day we'll do that.

Sorry Matthew but I will not be able to make it.
