Lens Hood Question

Hi all,

I purchased an Olympus 50-200mm F2.8 - 3.5 SWD. The hood for the lens has a sliding door on the side, and I do not understand why this sliding door would be there, other than to let light in. If anyone has any thoughts on this I sure would appreciate it if you would give me a shout.

The slot allows you to rotate a polarizer filter without having to remove the hood
