Canon 1D Mark III
Tamron 200-500mm f/5.0-6.3 @ 500mm
1/640 sec @ f/6.3 ISO 1250

This immature Red Tailed Hawk posed for us on this post the 1st day we were at Ridgefield NWR. Sure that post is VERY non-nature but the golden light and that pose make this image work well for me.

Do note this was also handheld or at best braced on the window frame of the truck and shot at ISO 1250 with NO noise reduction and a bit of sharpening. Oh and I cropped some 25% off the full frame image.

So lemme know what yall think of this!! Thanks!!

I was just thinking about this image and realized I mis-spoke. I DID do some noise reduction in Lightroom prior to exporting to a JPEG and on to Photoshop for a final sharpen before posting.

My apologies.

Rick, looks pretty sharp on my monitor, although when I squint carefully at the hawk's R eye I think you wouldn't want to enlarge this more than about 11x 14 or thereabouts. Poor guy didn't have much to grab on to did he?

This must be the one you were telling me about. Nice shot!

I looked at all my shots from the weekend and I've decided that I do much better with things that don't move around.

Mark at times I'd swear "the camera" is a darn sight BETTER than this fool standing behind it!!!

I agree that the golden light is working well on this guy. My only suggestion would be to gently dodge the darker eye so that it doesn't contrast quite so strongly with the other.
