The cold snap has really sparked the hares into life. I usually go to Lancashire for hares, but thanks to great advice from UKNP members and friends, I have found a couple of new location that are closer to home.
This one took me by surprise after getting a few portrait shots. I had not anticipated him to turn and run directly at me. Would have like to have had a the camera turned round for portrait - but you take what you get with these chaps. I think the cold had slowed my reactions! I love the way all four feet are off the ground...
Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II, 1/640sec at f/6.3, Av, Evaluative, ISO: 400, EF600mm f/4 IS L & 1.4xTc. Beanbag on car door.
Superb shot. I can see what your saying about having this in portrait format but personally I prefer it exactly as it is, mainly because the distant visible track shows exactly where the hare's come from and the small area of frosted grass bottom right really adds to the overall scene,IMHO.

that's a great shot, I also like the fact all 4 feet are off the ground.
Agree with Justin it works well as a horizontal,a great shot of a hare in motion!
Great lighting and good detail in the shadow area on its flank!
Works for me!

All the feet of the ground!!! Well done.
Sorry for not being around much but I have a terrible Flu and not feeling well for over a week.
By seeing all the great shots over here I feel a lot better

All we need now Elliott is a toitoise between us or a Greyhound.
The distant track makes for the subject being where it is without that I might have said its too central and it might be better in portrait. So it just goes to show how certain elements with in the scene can either make it or break it so to speak. Great image with movement

Hi Elliott,
This is a cracking shot, with all four off the ground really adds to the motion. I think that the landscape format works rather well.

Great shot, Elliot, love the moment captured, the hare lighter than air. Yes, it would have looked good in portrait, but I don't think there's enough space below the hare to crop this, so I say leave it as it is, it's still great.

Hi Elliot,
Nice shot. Composition wise, very nice as is. You have captured it just at the right moment. Like the OoF track in the Bg.

Thanks for all the great comments. Yep, that is ice stuck to the hare's fur. It was a very frosty start and this was shot just as the hoarfrost was thawing.
