Something different for me
Hi everyone,

Sorry I've been quiet recently but I've been trying to do something different (for me) recently and am posting this image to see whether people think that it works stylistically or not - I know there are a few issues with sharpness etc but I'd mainly like comments about the style and presentation if possible and any suggestions for improving it. Thanks. The technical details are:

Camera: Canon EOS 30D
Lens: Canon 400 f5.6
Aperture: f5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/4000s
ISO: 640
Metering: Evaluative
Exposure Control: Aperture Priority
Camera Support: Handheld
RAW Conversion: Capture One
Post Processing: Levels, Curves, USM (FocalBlade)

Many thanks for looking

Adrian

Issues aside, it works all day long for me Adrian - very atmospheric with the mist, colours on the water and backlighting - I like it :toast: :toast:

Hi Adrian,

I mirror Andy's comments!

I like this a lot. The mist is great, and you've frozen the motion perfectly. A minor nit, and one that's out of your control, i think it may look better from a more side-on view. Other than that, perfect :toast:

Of course it works. Agree with everything Andy has said.

great action and lighting, but the bird seems a little too low in the frame for me

Hi Adrian

The mood works for me but the flying away aspect of the goose I am not comfortable with.

Absolutely great atmosphere. The water was just to hot for this bird

Great work.

A nice image, not sure I would have had so much space on the left. Its the kind of image that says "have a safe journey".

I like this picture very much. The light and mist create a mystic fairy-like look. Well done.

Tom and Sandra,

Thanks for the comments. Tom I see what you mean about the space on the left - I'll have a look at cropping it and taking out the space and seeing how that looks. Sandra thanks "mystic" is s ort of the feel I was trying to get so it seems to have worked then

Agree with Tom's comments. Anything with warm light, mist, and behaviour will make for a great wildlife photograph. When the light is soft, back-lighting the subject such as this creates a very atmospheric shot. Issues aside, it definitely works! :toast: :toast:

I'm pretty much with everyone else on this one - works extremely well with this nit of the angle of the goose.
