Gloomy Seas
Finally got a chance to get out and do some shooting. David Anderson invited me along and we headed out to the coast. We were hoping for some dramatic, colorful skies. Most of what we saw was morose, but still had potential for some gloomy weather shots. Here is one from our outing. C&C appreciated.

Hans,
Good shot for the conditions. though I would like to see a bit more seperation between the sea and the sky.

Hans, very nice shot especially given the "morose" conditions. I like the wave run-off and, at least for me, the blending of the sea and sky give the image a more ethereal feel. The lower left foreground rock is a bit distracting. I’m still processing my batch but should have one up soon.

Hans, nice shot. I really like the comp and wave/water movement. I think the little band of pink in the sky really helps separate an otherwise flat transition from sea to sky.

I look forward to seeing David's shots as well. Can you tell where this was taken? I am planning my first trip out there this Spring and will be looking for some rocks like this, especially with the keyhole going thru the rock.

Hello Derek, this shot was taken just north of Ecola State Park (near Cannon Beach). Just past the fee booth there is a road that goes to Indian Beach. I walked south from Indian beach toward Ecola to get this shot.

Here's a shot of mine to give you a frame of reference. This is looking north from the Ecola viewpoint towards Indian Beach.

Viewpoint

Make sure to check the tide tables, as it's best to plan your visit on a receding tide or low tide to have access to the rocky areas. It's a great location with a wide variety of comps available. Enjoy your visit.

Hans: I enjoy this shot and I would agree with Derek regarding the pink separating the sky and sea. The rock jutting in from the L side doesn't add anything to the image IMO.
