In case anyone didn't know there's a new version of ViewNX (1.0.3) for free download at Nikon support site.

It gives readouts for AF fine tune & picture control settings and quite a bit more info than the older version which was more compliant with D2 series.

Worth the download if you haven't already. :toast: :toast:

Cheers big ears! More work to do, warn out from polishing me cups, keeps the lass happy.
Hey Andy what software do you use for keywording? Thinking of doing some in my spare time at work.

Maybe a little off topic,

How does the focus speed and image quality at high ISO on the D300 compare with the D3?

Thanks Tim,
I never expected that much difference.

I'm trying a D3 at the moment and like it a lot, although I'm still unable to get my hands on a 400 VR lens to try with it. I was toying with the idea of using a D300 as a 2nd body, but it looks to be a totally different thing at high ISO

John - the D3 is awesome, but it for most things I need the crop factor, or should that read I FEEL I NEED - that's why I have the 300.

If the D3 had a few more Mp then it would be a different story.

I was listening to a certain Mr. Rouse yesterday and, according to him, he never shoots the D3 below 2000iso and he gets these images accepted at Getty without any troubles whatsoever.

Now if that would apply to Tim equally, or me if I bought one, I don't know!

The 300 is, IMHO, not good below 400 iso - at this it's awesome - but the noise at 200, on mine at least is marginally less good - and at those silly L settings it's just plain rubbish. 800 is impressive, and Mr Rouse claimed to have images off a 300 at 1000iso accepted by his agency.

In my experience the results are great at 800 and 1000 iso if 72dpi web images are your bag - but the full rez tiffs make me cringe a bit, but not as much as those off the D2Xs at the same speeds.

We await, with breath all baited, for Nikon to announce the D3X, perhaps with that mega 25+Mp Sony chip inside.

Timothy my man - only CS3, though I could be tempted by a cheap c*** of Opanda Pro

Off topic - sorry!

Tim - I use Extensis Portfolio 8.5 for Renaming, keywording and generally organising all my files - it lets me see all the images (RAW included) and it tells me where they are stored such as img #001028678 (for example) is on external hard drive J:

Andy - Awaited breath, I await! But I'd be happy with 16+ megapixels

Oh Paul - don't start me off - 16 -18Mp is plenty if you ask me, either crop or FF - why they need to keep chasing more and more pixels is a bit beyond me :frown:

A late reply!

Just used the D3 on a little owl and at 1000 asa the noise is far better than the D2x was at 400 asa and its a lot better than the D300 at the same value,I even cranked it up to 1600 and the noise really only becomes visible at 100percent mag and the same at 2000asa it really is great at high speeds and noise is not an issue!!!

Cheers
