Hi Andy,
Very nice job! Beats going to the gym!

Mr Bate - oh so very well done for capturing this little fella
Flash +0.7 Methinks you might have an alignment problem between the extender and the front of the gun, or between the whole caboodle and the lens matey - that should have been something like -2 to -2.7 ev. or perhaps a tad less with that gun - but a minus value all the same.

Ill send you a email now Mr Big A

Andy - got your mail, but for some reason I can't send, so here goes:
On your D2Xs go to Custom settings, bracketing and flash, and set synch speed to auto FP.
Mount the BB on your flash and make sure that the fresnel screen is square side to side and top to bottom with the tube face.
Mount ye flash into thine hotshoe.
Then....well search me mate, that gun is older than Noah, but there's a cool guide to it here
Get an SB800 and all your woes will vanish in a trice (believe that and you'll believe anything!)
Just remember, the BB adds about 2 to 2.5 stops to your exposure, so in effect you need to take them back out if you are after balanced fill flash.
If I'm up Thursday and it's a bit dull I'll show you

Done well with the flash here as it balances the bird and background nicely-good capture

Great shot of this hard to get species!
I think (if possible) i would crop it just a bit tighter as the OOF part of the tree is taking too much attention from theis lovely bird.
Greetings,
