David: The capture and light is great - no nits there. However there are processing artifacts that I see because I'm guilty of the same type of thing, I think. L of the sparrow is a definite line where it appears a clone tool w/ too high a hardness setting made a pass. Same thing R of sparrow.

you are correct. I was trying to remove some sharpening artifact...

If the area of bokeh was being degraded by sharpening, try selecting the sky with the magic wand selection tool, type CTRL-SHFT-i to select the inverse (the bird and plant), then apply your sharpening so that only the bird and plant get the sharpening effects.

Processing details aside, David, that's a neat shot - one of the more interesting bird shots I've seen here. The texture and detail is really nice.

Good advice on the sharpening. And the shot is great. Cute birds they are.

Ditto on pretty much all the above (my only nit being that it's a Finch on a Rhody ).

John, you are correct; it is a female house finch.
Thanx to everyone for their kind comments and suggestions...

Nice capture of the "sparrow" (er, house finch) David. You got very good sharpening advice and I think a reprocessing using those techniques will really bring out the best in this image. I love the look of the eye of this bird...
