This image was taken in my garden early on a very frosty morning in thick freezing fog. It would have benefited from some more DOF to get the teasel head a bit sharper but light levels were pretty bad.
I tend to use my 400D for close-up images like this as the mirror slap on my 30D tends to scare the birds off (anyone else have that problem? )
Canon 400D with 400 5.6 lens.
1/125 sec, f5.6, ISO 400, tripod.
All C+C appreciated.

Hi Matt, it's good shot of the Goldfinch on a great perch. I think it look a bit flat, maybe with a boost of contrast it would look a bit better. I don't see any problem with the DOF here anyway!
A really nice shot made all the better by the frost coated perch.

Nice shot Matt, As for the 30D mirror slap, i had the same issue with my 20D... i changed brands!

Very nice image! A vertical crop might be preferable to the square?

Nice one Matt the frost adding more interest to the shot.
Does look as though it needs a little boost though

Well set-up - needs a touch of curves boosting and it'll be nice - any more space on the left would help as well compositionally for me as it's a touch central.

Many thanks for the comments. I've boosted the contrast so hopefully that now looks a bit better. I'd need to go back to the RAW file to play around with different crops and can't do that at the mo.

The second is head and shoulders better. Lovely shot. I also think a portrait crop would be worth looking at. Eric
