I have been debating what new toy or add-on to add to my bag. I primarily shoot with a Nikon D70. I also have a Nikon N80 for film use. My lenses are a 80/400 vr, 12/24 Nikon, 17/35 Nikon and a 1.4x teleconverter.
I shoot mostly landcapes and wildlife. If you were me would you just save your money and upgrade to a Nikon D300 in a year or so or would you put that on the backburner and get another lens? If so which do you like?
Thanks for the input!

If you don't feel like you're missing opportunities with your current gear, why spend the money?
Either save it or use it to pay for a nice trip to a location you haven't been to yet (or one you have and would like to go back).

You have great lenses. The 12-24 DX is THE wide-angle for DX, the 17-35/2.8 is legendary, and the 80-400 VR seems to be very nice unless you need AF-S-fast autofocus. So, I don't see much need for an upgrade, unless you want to wander into different territory (light travel lens, macro lenses or whatever - doesn't make much sense to suggest lenses if your needs are unknown).

Yup, I agree with Guy. Be happy with what you have for now and invest in more photo ops.

I shot with a D70 for almost 4 solid years......Loved that camera.....New years day this year I was out with Ned Fenimore and Eric Hahl shooting in the Gorge and it went belly up......I can not be without my camera and I was hell bent on a D3.....well no place had any in stock so I quickly picked up a D300 and absolutely love it........image quality is over 2 times as good as the D70, much much more dynamic range in the orig file to work with and some great bells and whistles that I really never use but they are there if I need them....I shoot at the low end of the ISO range so noise was not an issue for me......

You already have some great lenses and that 12-24 would be an ideal match for the D300, I have the sigma 10-20 for mine and so I can only imagine how awesome that 12/24 would be.....

in my opinion I would say it's time to step up the camera......get the higher res files and make better larger prints......

and take a trip.........trips are good....they help to clear the mind, free the soul and let your brain work in the artistic way us photographers are meant to work!!!!!

I am doing a 9 day road trip at the end of August till after Labor day........ohhhhhhhh Yeah!!!!!!! :toast: :toast:
