I need some advice on UNcomplicated software that has good sharpening features please.

We have Vista Premium on an AMD 64 dual core chip processor.

I've thought about Elements 6, but have read it doesn't work well on a 64 bit (better on 32) and I don't think 5 works on Vista.

I don't want to get into CS3 due to it's complexity (and expense).

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Lisa

Lisa, you can download a trial copy of Elements 6 from Adobe and see if/how it works before you buy.

Lisa, you could try Corel's Paint Shop Pro. The latest version works with Vista, and if it's like their previous versions, easy to learn and it's affordable. Check it out here.

I have Adobe 6 and it works great (I'm not on Vista). Just picked it up a month ago $48.00 with rebates at Staples. If I had an extra $700 I would like to try CS3 but 6 works just fine.

I'm using Elements 5 with Vista without any problems that I'm aware of.

I haven't heard about problems with Elements 6 and Vista 64 bit. I'd try to investigate that a bit further. But having said that, I am running XP 32 bit, CS2 and various forms of Elements without interest in upgrading, so I haven't tried to find at any potential issues.

Elements 6, assuming that there really are no problems, would be my first, second and third recommendations with a budget and CS3 without a budget.

For what it is worth, the Adobe page states that Elements 6 will run on Windows XP SP2 and Vista. They say nothing about 32 vs 64. There is usually a phone number and/or an email address to send off question to. A quick scan though the Adobe pages on Elements got me lost with all the FAQ lists, forums and the like. Too bad the FAQs are never from actual questions that are even asked, but that is the way with the loss of real live human contact!

Guy has the obvious solution--try the free Elements v6.0. It's a very good program and only as complicated as you want to make it.

Alrighty then. I downloaded the free trial and so far, so good. Have also ordered the "Missing Manual" for 6. I had read so many negative things about 6 and Vista I was hesitant to even try the freebie. So will let you know.

Thanks for all the advice!

I would second George's idea getting one of the older photoshops like CS or CS2...you can find them pretty cheap...
