Can some of you Co. Spgs folks tell me what is the best time of day to photograph from Rampart Range Road? I was gonna come down Sunday but the weatherman says it might not be a good idea. Might be better on Moday after some fresh snow?

Monday with the fresh snow would probably be good. Sunrise to early morning (up until 10 am or so) is nice and is probably the most typical time to photograph Pikes from the road (especially on the Garden of the Gods side). Sunset could also work (especially on the Woodland Park side).

I'm not sure sunset on Pikes Peak will work at this time of year as the face seen from Woodland Park or the RRR is mostly in shadow early in the afternoon right now. You could go further west to Divide or the Crags, but these are not on RRR. I'd consider it a morning only location until late April or so.

RRR is not too bad to drive in fresh snow. Just be careful as there could be some icy spots covered in powder this time of year.

When the Catamount Resevoirs on Pikes Peak Highway open, they're also nice places for early morning light. Its $3 to go up to the lakes to fish.
