Was in Canyonlands this weekend--had to preserve tradition and make one trip to UT before the winter'd gone! ABsolutely perfect weather, and crowds were sparse. I gave my rebuilt transfer case a good workout on the drying 4WD roads
I try to avoid shooting icons, but after scouting Mesa Arch in the afternoon, i knew i couldnt miss sunrise. This is a single exposure, my sunburst shot at ESS required a blend. It was a great trip!
Love the arch shot, I have to go there this April when my brother is coming out here and has asked to visit Arches and Canyonlands. I'm dreading the possible crowd complications by then.

Icons are icons for a reason...they're beautiful. I never avoid shooting something just because everyone else has done it. Especially if the conditions are right. You're arch shot is great. I also really like the view looking south to the moon.
No reason to avoid shooting icons other than crowds. You might capture something new from the location (like your moonset shot) and of course you can put your personal touch on your shot from the iconic location.

Wow, great stuff Stan.
I guess it is already early Spring in Utah right now. It looks like you caught it at the best time before the crouds hit! I'm sure it was a nice break from our long winter. Although that mid day shot of the San Juans looks pretty sweet too!
It sure is nice to see a lake or river that isn't frozen. I bet that water is still pretty cold though.
From what looks like a glowing-red clay oven to a frosty freezer-box - that's quite the range of climates and scenes for such a short trip. Pretty cool! The first shot is a killer, and the others are really nice as well. I like the calm, lazy, comfortable feel of the second one - very relaxing.
All are very nice but I'm really digging that Green River image, Stan. Where is that? Wish I had been around this weekend as it would have been great to say "hi".
Brett, that's off the 4WD road that leads into the park from the north, from Mineral Park. I truly got lucky, since apparently this was the first weekend that the roads were in decent shape, most hadnt been driven since last fall. I really wish i had more time on the way back, i went through that valley west of Naturita--quite spectacular, could have spent a week shooting there.

Great color on those Utah shots, Stan!
