Hi - Just wondered if you guys could help a visitor from England. I hope you don't mind me dropping in virtually, and physically in a few weeks!

I'm visiting the USA (from England) at the start of next month. To cut a long story short, as part of the trip I have to be in Las Vegas for a few days. I just wondered if anyone had experience of shooting at either of the following two locations; Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve and Clark County Wetlands Park. I suppose what I'm asking is which one may be best for some avian photography?

Many thanks, Paul

I haven't, but I have a friend in Las Vegas (Henderson technically) who will likely know something about the areas. He's not a photographer, but if you can't get the sort of info you'd like I can forward specific questions to him on your behalf.

Paul, I'm not familiar with the Clark County Wetlands Park, but the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve is part of a water reclamation area is is marvelous. Depending on the time of year, over 200 species of birds fly through. No charge. You will have to stop at gate and call; they let you in and then you're free to wander. Hours: 6, maybe 6:30 to 2-2:30 in the afternoon. Well worth the visit. You cannot feed/bait birds there.

Hi again and thanks, I’ve managed to do a little more research and discovered that both areas are actually situated very close to each other, something I didn’t realise during my initial research.

It looks like visits to both locations will be no trouble. Although I’ll be visiting some areas outside the city there are a few days when I’m tied to the Vegas area but will have several hours between commitments. These two areas are within a short drive from my hotel and will hopefully be ideal to spend a few hours shooting….
