Dismal Hollow
I imagine the big falls in Dismal Hollow look like this again today, though I shot this photo two weeks ago. I have a version without yours truly in the frame, but at the time I felt I really needed to get in there to show how big that waterfall is. Your comments and critique are encouraged.

Excellent shot John, I have this spot on my list but have not made it yet. There may be snow to go with the water tomorrow.

Dramatic shot, John, and one that captures the power and dynamism of the waterfall.

Nice work, John! That's some beautiful country in there. I'll bet the creeks are ripping today! Just checked the guage at Richland Ck. - 5,560 cfs! It had been 40 cfs before the rain last night...it's risen 6 feet today, and going up.

I'm curious about how you came out of Dismal...did you come out on a private road, or backtrack the same way you went in. I was a little nervous the last time I was there when we ran later than expected and ventured onto private property.

Funny you should ask about my return hike, Bill. I came upon a 4-wheeler road and tried taking it out, but it started going east away from the parking area. I was nearing a point nearly uphill of the big falls (according to my GPS) before I turned around and bushwhacked west. That little detour made the hike out much longer than it should have been.

Hey John looks like you caught it crankin. This rain must have been when I was out of town. Glad you were able to catch it going.

This area is certainly one of the hidden treasures of the Ozarks. My problem is that no matter how many times I visit I can't seem to get very far in - there is always so much to shoot right in the first mile! I've gone in and out many different directions and the best by far is to just do both via the route that is described in the guidebook. There is a great deal of private property surrounding it, and that route is one sure way to keep on forest service property.

Great shot, John. And it looks like rain here in Kentucky today and cloudy tomorrow. I think I may do a bit of waterfall hunting of my own. :jump:

I love the take on this......could you have included the whole person in the scene...feet and all....he kind of looks cut off......

I love the water flow here!!!
